The ‘garden shop’ – the real world shop in the walled garden! – is generally open for sales of produce eggs, and preserves from 9am to 5pm daily, April to September. You may find us open outside those times. That said, there are only two of us and we may have to go off to clean our holiday lets, go shopping … or even take a rare half-day off! – so those hours are just a guide – we may be open earlier or later … or not at all. If you’re planning a special visit, we suggest you contact us first by email or call us on 01878 700828*. (That applies also to the Big Garden)

Hand-spun Yarns: Colours and Quantities
It’s impossible to accurately represent on a website the subtle colours of natural wools and dyes, and of course impossible to convey the lustre, handle and other characteristics. If you’ve any queries, please contact us
For hand-spun Double Knit [DK], one 75g skein is usually sufficient for a simple Beanie-style hat. Two skeins will be sufficient for a ladies’ light scarf.
The average weight of all skeins of any one colour will be at least 75g.
Mill-spun Yarns: Colours and Quantities
Our Hebridean and Cheviot yarns in 50g balls are spun for us at specialist ‘micro-mills’, and this means that the colour and thickness and consistent over much larger production runs. There may however be slight variations from one ‘lot’ to the next, so we do not mix balls from different lots in the same order.
Both yarns and knitwear should be washed gently in luke-warm water using soft soap flakes or a liquid soap for delicates. Do not rub! To dry, squeeze gently and/or spin – do not wring. Lay flat in a warm airy place, gently pull into shape.
Ordering and Payment

To use this payment system you do not need to have a PayPal account of your own: the checkout page will let you pay (as a PayPal ‘Guest’) with a credit or debit card. You can also pay in currencies other than Pounds Sterling (but if delivery is to outside the UK, see below). Regardless of the payment method, there is no fee payable.
To add to your basket (Cart), go to the relevant page, select from the pull-down menu and click and then adjust the quantity. Click Continue Shopping to add other items.
Postage and Packaging ; Collection
Each order to be delivered to a single address in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man or Channel Islands, is charged postage and packaging at the following rates:
- Order value £50 or less: £4.95
- Order value more than £50 but less than £100: £9.95
- Order value more than £100: £12.45
For delivery to other countries, please enquire (before you place your order!) what the additional charge will be. We will ask you for a detailed list of the items you wish to order. If you agree to the additional charge you can go ahead and place your order online, and we will send to you a PayPal invoice for the additional charge. When we have received payment of the additional charge, we will despatch the goods to you.
If you prefer to collect from us, let us know you’ll be collecting either by adding a note to the PayPal payment form, but you will need to contact us to agree a date/time for collection. We will refund the postage and packaging charge to the card or account from which you originally paid.
Dispatch & Delivery
Orders are usually dispatched within 7 days of receipt of payment. Exceptionally, we may be unable to keep to this, in which case we will let you know how long a delay is expected and offer you options for cancellation of the order in part or in whole, with information on the relevant refund to be made.
Deliveries are sent using Royal Mail, and – except only for very low value orders – will require your signature on delivery. If you have any special requirements for delivery, you can add a note to the PayPal payment form, or let us know by email.
Delivery to other countries is by Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed For.
You may return purchases for refund provided returned items are unused and arrive back with us in good condition, and within 14 days of purchase. You are responsible for return postage. Refunds are subject to a deduction of 10% to cover transaction charges. This is in addition to and does not affect your statutory rights.
Exchanges are treated as a return of the original purchase, and a separate new purchase: however there will be no 10% deduction made for transaction charge if the value of the replacement item is not less than the value of the returned item. Please get in touch with us first to let us know what you have in mind: depending on circumstances we may simply send you a PayPal invoice for the additional cost when receive the item returned from your original purchase.
